FAMILY MEDIATION

What Is Family Mediation ?

Working with families through family breakdown, conflict, separation and divorce.

Family mediation is an increasingly favoured model for resolving disputes that may otherwise be heard before the family court. In some circumstances mediation is often used as a problem-solving
social work intervention as conflict between parents can have negative consequences on the quality of children’s home life.

At Equity Family Services we believe that parenting makes a big difference in the life of children, especially parenting that is positive, supportive and encouraging. We offer parenting support and family mediation focussed on supporting families experiencing conflict. Our staff work collaboratively with families to mediate contentious disputes and arrive at solutions that address their concerns and specific circumstances.

Parent–adolescent conflict can sometimes feel overwhelming and lead to a breakdown of relationships. Conflict intensity can heighten during adolescence and in some cases leads to a sense of isolation that can impact on the emotional well-being of both the young person and their parent(s).

Our consultant social workers and family support workers are experienced in working with families affected by conflict. We believe conflict is normal and inevitable in family relationships and feel that mediating conflicts, using conflict reductions strategies reduce the risk of damage to family relationships. Consequently, our interventions are focussed on working collaboratively with families by adopting conflict reduction strategies and putting in place support arrangements aimed at reducing conflict.
